(Black Poplar mushroom, Swordbelt Agrocybe, Yanagi-matsutake)
Pioppinos or poplar mushrooms grow at the feet of poplars in the wild. You can also find them near elder, elm and mulberry. They grow in clusters, just like the Elm oyster or the Nameko.
The poplar mushroom grows in clusters. The cap has a diameter of 3 to 9 cm. The colour of the cap is dark-brown in the middle and light nut-brown towards the rim. The stem is 1 to 1.5 cm thick and can be 12 cm long. It has a meaty structure. The mushroom faintly smells of flour. Apart from that the poplar mushroom has a high medicinal value. Eaten dried it can cure head-ache, dizziness, nausea and fever. When eaten on a regular basis, it helps slow down or prevent tumours and cancer.
Its structure is meaty and firm and the mushroom smells faintly of flour. The taste of the young mushroom especially is very pleasant and can be characterised as a little sweet, which makes it suitable for salads. The poplar mushroom is a firm mushroom and can be kept in the fridge for 4 to 5 days. The mushroom does not have to be washed before preparation.
